Background

Synaptobrevin (also VAMP) is an integral membrane protein of synaptic vesicles that plays a major role in the formation of larger SNARE complexes, along with SNAP-25 and syntaxin. Synaptobrevin has been shown to be essential for two fast synapse-specific membrane trafficking processes: fast exocytosis for neurotransmitter release and fast endocytosis that mediates rapid recycling of synaptic vesicles. Decreased levels of synaptobrevin in human hippocampus and cortex have been correlated with cognitive defects in Alzheimer’s disease.

Native Protein
Anti-Synaptobrevin (VAMP) Monoclonal Antibody was produced in mouse by repeated immunizations with synaptic immunoprecipitate (crude) from human brain.
Anti-Synaptobrevin (VAMP) Antibody is directed against human synaptobrevin. Anti-Synaptobrevin was IgM purified by chromatography from cell culture supernatant. Reactivity is expected against bovine, mouse, pig, rat, rabbit and hamster.

Application Details

IHC
Anti-Synaptobrevin antibody has been tested in Western Blotting and IHC. Expect a band of approximately 16 kDa in size corresponding to the VAMP proteins in Western blot of rat brain lysate. Anti-Synaptobrevin antibody has also been demonstrated to work in immunohistochemistry on formalin fixed, vibratome sections, but does not work on paraffin sections. Specific conditions for reactivity should be optimized by the end user. Researchers should determine optimal titers for applications that are not stated below.
